Because I get the following question from time to time, I thought I’d just post the Q&A here for all of you to read and share.
The question asked is usually something like this…
“Hey Craig, your homepage says that jobsite123 is the vibrant ecosphere for the commercial construction and design industry. What do you mean by ‘vibrant ecosphere’ “?
And my answer is usually something like this…
” ‘Vibrant’ refers to the depth and helpfulness of the information found in the company profiles, which provide clients and prospects with the exact information needed to maintain the business relationship – or get it started.”
” ‘Ecosphere’ refers to the growing number of companies (currently over 200K throughout the U.S.) that work in and around the commercial construction industry (including contractors, architects, engineers, suppliers, corporate support) that are choosing to market their project experience, client ratings and other qualifications – and find project/employment opportunities – in the industry’s largest and most highly visited online community – jobsite123.com.”

Light Bulb Phase Out – Commercial Facility Managers Beware
Jul 5, 2011 commercial construction industry
Did you know that the 100-watt incandescent bulb will be the first incandescent to be banned from U.S. store shelves on January 1, 2012? According to a December 2010 light bulb phase out survey conducted by Sylvania, only 19% knew about this huge change.
Back in December 2007, Congress passed legislation to phase out most incandescent bulbs by 2014. It’s called the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, and it requires all general purpose light bulbs that produce 310-2600 lumens to be 30% more energy efficient producing the same amount of light. A few of the exceptions are appliance bulbs, colored bulbs and plant lights.
The relevance to you, as a Commercial Facility Manager, is to remind you of this January 1, 2012 nationwide change when you begin planning your 2012 budgets. Depending on how many square feet of building space you are responsible for, you might want to do some cost research about your replacement lighting expenses. Replacement options are already available in stores, and include CFLs (compact florescent light), LEDs (light emitting diode) and Halogen bulbs. Of the three alternatives, the halogen is the least efficient; and while CFLs and LEDs consume far less energy and last much longer than incandescent bulbs, the up-front cost difference from incandescent bulbs is significant.
For example, an 8-pack of 100-watt soft white incandescent light bulbs costs about $3 at Lowe’s…a single 100-watt soft white CFL costs around $12 at Lowe’s…and a single 60-watt soft white equivalent LED light bulb costs around $40 at Lowe’s.
However, don’t jump to the conclusion that CFLs are the clear replacement option…check out this comparison of CFLs to LEDs by lighting expert Cree.
By the way, if you haven’t already signed-up for jobsite123’s Lowe’s For Pros Discount Purchasing Program, you’re probably spending too much money on your materials purchases.

Major Search Engines Are Directing Buyers of Commercial Construction and Design Services to jobsite123.com
Feb 9, 2011 commercial construction industry, marketing tips
jobsite123.com is the digital bridge that allows buyers to find the complete credentials of commercial construction and design companies through any of the major search engines: Google, Yahoo or Bing.
First, we researched the industry in order to be able to coach companies to display the exact information that buyers need when searching online for qualified companies for their commercial construction projects. Then, we went LIVE with search functions for users to find members within our community by: company name, building specialty, service area, and keywords that describe the work a company performs. And now, we have launched THE plug-in tool that allows buyers to find the exact company information they desire through any of the major search engines.
Check out the number one search results in the following buyer behavior examples:
1) Let’s say you’re a general contractor and you met a painting contractor at an industry networking event last night that said he meets your bonding requirements. Before calling him, you could easily find out for sure by doing THIS.
2) You’re the Facility Manager for the Miami Heat Arena, and you were referred to Artistic Surfaces for your very elaborate terrazzo project that spans the entire second floor concourse. You trust your referral’s recommendation, but you want to know what others have to say about Artistic Surfaces’ work, so you just do THIS.
3) You’re an architect, and you were asked by one of your clients to recommend a good full service interiors contractor that has healthcare experience. You’ve worked with Lotspeich Company of Florida on office and retail projects before, but you don’t know for sure that they have experience working in hospitals, so you do THIS.
Want this to work for your company? Just maintain a complete construction company profile in jobsite123, and we take care of the rest!
Member companies in jobsite123 benefit with higher visibility in the three major search engines for all of their most marketable credentials: completed projects, insurance coverage, bonding capacity, client ratings and more. Over a quarter million companies that work in and around the commercial construction and design industry have already started a profile in jobsite123.
We are obsessed with improving the bottom line of every company in the commercial construction and design industry by making the buying and selling process more efficient and informed.
Feel free to build a profile in our community and ride on our coattails as we flex our interet marketing muscles and attract buyers of commercial construction and design services.
New Technology Service Makes Construction Bidding More Like a Day at the Beach
Nov 18, 2010 commercial construction industry, jobsite123 User Experiences
The commercial construction industry is one of the most fragmented industries in the world. It breaks down into a mind-numbing number of local markets with 1000’s of specialized niche products and services in each market. This fragmentation creates significant barriers between buyers and sellers, and is especially problematic for government projects, which are usually mandated to obtain multiple bids per trade and product-type from companies that must also meet stringent qualifications guidelines in order to even be considered.
In order to make the construction project bid process easier for both buyers and sellers, jobsite123.com created and launched a bid interface tool. This new product allows decision makers from both the government sector and private sector to announce their construction projects. Then jobsite123 gathers, organizes and presents the responding companies to the owner in a format that provides easy comparison of their qualifications.
With over 25,000 profiles already active in jobsite123.com, it is quickly becoming the standard for online prequalification among buyers, and the targeted marketing vehicle for sellers within the commercial construction industry.
“jobsite123.com not only generated a large number of responses from contractors for our airport terminal expansion project, but they also made the whole prequalification process much easier for us. If more companies made their qualifications this easy to access, many of the typical headaches associated with the bid process would be eliminated. We will definitely re-engage jobsite123 for our next project.”
- Derek Thielmann, Construction Manager at Nassau Airport Authority in the Bahamas
Complete jobsite123 profiles provide instant answers to 95% of the most common buying questions, which makes them a more effective introduction tool for new relationships than a company website.
So if your company does not have a complete profile in jobsite123.com, then get on it Fella!
Time to Pursue Federal Construction Projects?
Sep 22, 2010 Surveys, commercial construction industry
A recent survey of our database revealed that more than half of the companies in the commercial construction and design industry are NOT pursuing federal work. And roughly the same percentage of companies in the industry are not even registered with the United States CCR (Central Contractor Registration).
The two survey Q&A’s were:
Is your company currently pursuing any federal construction projects?
Yes 44%
No 56%
Is your company registered with the CCR to bid on federal construction projects?
Yes 42%
No 58%
Translation: with more than half of the companies in the commercial construction and design industry not pursuing federal work, perhaps your company should consider the opportunity.
