The Blue Book Construction Directory Coffee Break

I’ve heard that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  When I hear this, it’s usually when someone’s trying to gain attention by copying someone else’s original ideas - but I never thought it would happen to me!

I tell ya what, we have known since our humble beginnings a few short years ago that our idea was solid.  And we have succeeded in creating truly useful, self-service, online company profiles that really help facilitate business in the commercial construction and design industry.  However, I never thought that our idea would be so attractive to a long-established, 100-year-old company, probably making zillions of dollars every year…that they would copy us.  No wonder the largest industry Orgs are deciding to partner with jobsite123 instead of The Blue Book!  So, am I flattered, you ask?  Yes!  Totally!

In fact, when I found out about The Blue Book copying our original idea, it made me laugh so hard that I fell out of my chair and broke my favorite coffee mug.  So in honor of being copied by a company that has been around for almost an entire century longer than ours, I decided to mark the occassion by getting a new coffee mug for me and everyone in the office.

Jobsite123 vs The Blue Book

As if you couldn’t tell, we’re having some serious fun with all of the attention we’re getting over here. If you want to bring the fun into your office, just click here to order as many mugs as you want!

Until next time…CHEERS!

Air Raid on a Blue Book Event in Fort Lauderdale

It happened again!

Somebody hired a plane to circle the sky above The Blue Book’s GC Showcase at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale yesterday afternoon. It was towing a banner similar to the one that flew over The Blue Book’s GC Showcase in Orlando last week:

CONTRACTORS KNOW – JOBSITE123.COM

Checkout this video that one of our Members took with his iPhone.  It shows the plane and banner flying above the Broward County Convention Center and Hilton Hotel.  You can’t really tell because of the cloudy whether, but this is the world-class area of Fort Lauderdale that is right along the intra-coastal waterway and just blocks from the beach.  Nice!

The pictures below were also sent in to us by one of our Members that noticed the plane and banner above The Blue Book’s GC Showcase in Fort Lauderdale.  LOL!

Listen, we’re doing really well over here - and feeling really good about helping so many in our industry make money, save money and reduce their risk.  Our Members are more grateful than ever for the online services that we provide, and as a result, our membership and traffic are skyrocketing.  However, the way that our Members are starting to compare what jobsite123 offers them vs. what the 100-year-old Blue Book does for them, is flattering (and FUN!).

What all of this is telling me is that the loyalty and respect that we have for our Members goes both ways.  Thanks very much to all of our Members for joining our Revolution – we’re proud to work for you.  And to those of you creating these fun displays of loyalty – thanks for the laughs!

Peace out for now.

Just in case you didn’t hear about it yet, somebody hired a plane to circle the sky above The Blue Book’s GC Showcase in Orlando yesterday afternoon.  It was towing this banner:

CONTRACTORS KNOW – JOBSITE123.COM

I wasn’t there, but I understand the banner was being towed by a very loud bi-plane that was releasing huge clouds of white smoke.  Fun!

I also heard that crowds of people were gathered on the hotel balconies and parking lot talking and pointing at the plane.  It flew for a few hours above the Rosen Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Orlando.  Wow!

Take a look at the pics sent to us from our Members so far…

Nice paintjob on the tow plane…too bad they didn’t wrap it with the jobsite123 logo!

The banner seems to say it all…if your company is not in jobsite123, you’re missing business opportunities.

Great shot of the banner flying thru the smoke trail!

I agree, it’s hard to not look up at something like this going on above your head.

Exactly how long is this banner, 1,000 feet?!?!  Huge!

That’s the Rosen Hotel and Conference Center in the foreground of this shot.

Thanks again to our Members that sent in the pics…if anyone happened to capture yesterday’s fun on video, please send it me.  I’d love to hear the plane and the crowd’s reaction!

JobSite123 – Facebook or LinkedIN for the Construction Industry

Mouji Linarez-Castillo, Director of Pre-Construction of the ANF Group introduces JobSite123.com to a group of over 400 South Florida commercial construction professionals on September 10, 2009.

Here is an excerpt from Mouji Linarez-Castillo’s presentation…
Good morning everyone and thank you for joining us again this year. I’m very excited to have such a great turn-out of over 400 contractors, material suppliers and other industry professionals.  We’re very proud to kick-off our “Meet and Learn Breakfast” by introducing you to the new JobSite123.com which has a lot more to offer than what you saw last year. We’re using it as a tool and we hope that it will eventually eliminate our pre-qualification process. Wouldn’t that be nice for all of us?

We’re requesting at ANF… really mandating as you all know (but requesting sounds better lol!) that you participate by filling out a Qual-Port and making it complete including all the tabs so that we have the information we need.

Once you qualify with us by using your Qual-Port, you not only gain access to being on our bid list, but you make yourself visible to the whole [Commercial Construction] industry. I know that several of the large GCs [General Contractors] in our community have also adopted using JobSite123 and we’re going to be presenting it to owners as well to create transparency… (e.g. of why subs are a great fit for a job and why we are qualified to do the work that we do).

Many of you have already started to create a Qual-Port and that’s fantastic. Today, you’ll see the full capacity that this tool has to offer. All of the tabs that have been created were done by consulting with a 100 different general contractors and facilities managers so you can rest assured that the information that we request you put inthere is important to us and it’s information that we use.

The other new feature is industry connections and I’m sure that everybody has been at least exposed to and talked about Facebook and LinkedIN. It’s a part of life now whether we like it or not. This is a Facebook or LinkedIN for the construction industry.  Which is fantastic becuase if I don’t know a sub and I want to get to know you, I’m going to want to call somebody that I do know and trust, that’s worked beside you to vouch for the quality of work you have. This allows you to do that. It allows you to cross-promote other sub-contractors that you worked along-side that you respect and can vouch for the work they do.

So, to get started today, join us in taking a leadership role in implementing this tool, using this tool and being a part of it. I know that many of us have done business for years together and I’m hoping that even with that, when you create your Qual-Port I learn something new about what you do.
