LEED Projects Experience is now a Must-Have for Construction and Design Firms
Sep 9, 2010 Surveys, marketing tips
A recent survey of our database indicates that 64% of companies in the commercial building industry have LEED projects experience. So from a marketing perspective, LEED experience is now a must-have for construction and design firms competing for projects.
The exact survey Q&A was:
Has your company worked on any projects that have achieved a LEED designation?
Yes 64%
No 36%
For the 36% of the industry that does not yet have LEED experience, here are the basics:
There are four LEED levels for commercial buildings…
LEED Certified
LEED Silver
LEED Gold
LEED Platinum
And, each of the above LEED designations are awarded according to a 100-point scale based on the environmental impact of the following five categories…
Sustainable Site
Water Efficiency
Energy & Atmosphere
Materials & Resources
Indoor Environmental Quality
Additionally, there are two bonus categories…
Innovation in Design
Regional Priority

Competition Among Construction Companies is Heating Up
Sep 3, 2010 Surveys
Our national database of commercial construction and design companies includes architects, engineers, general contractors, specialty contractors, material suppliers and related vendors/corporate services.
We recently surveyed our database, and we learned that 2/3’s of the industry is entering new markets. The exact Q&A was:
Is your company pursuing work outside of your normal market area?
Yes 67%
No 33%
We all already know that the ailing economy is causing increased competition among companies chasing fewer construction projects in their local market area. But the above survey results also tells us that competition is further intensified with companies entering new markets to chase work.
Translation: only the strongest companies will survive the current economic cycle.
Suggestion: stand-out from your competition by making it easier for project owners and managers to access your company’s experience and references by creating a profile on jobsite123.com
Is Green Building Just a Fad?
Aug 31, 2010 Surveys
In a recent survey, we asked companies in the commercial construction and design industry what they thought about green building. The exact survey Q/A was as follows:
Does your company believe that the green building movement is here to stay?
Yes 80%
No 20%
We agree that green building is here to stay. And to the 20% that don’t agree…FYI: just go into Google and search for “green building”. It returns 120 million results. That’s huge validation and momentum for green building.
We hope these survey results help you to position your company to take advantage of this undeniable building trend. Good luck out there, Fella.

Commercials for Construction Companies + Design Firms are Not Common, YET
Aug 24, 2010 Surveys
Video is very effective, but only when it reaches the intended target audience. And although television is expensive, it is an effective way to reach consumers. So how do businesses that sell to other businesses (B2B) use video to promote their products and services? Answer: the internet.
In a recent survey, we learned that well over half of the companies in the commercial construction and design industry would not create a video for their B2B product/service. The exact question and answers was as follows:
Would your company create a television-quality commercial if there was a way to reach your exact target market with it?
No 65%
Yes 35%
The reason 65% of companies said “No” is likely because they are not aware of how inexpensive and easy it can be to create an effective commercial for their company, and get it LIVE on the web. They’re probably also not sure where on the web to post it. No matter what the exact reason for having not created a company commercial and uploading it to the web, we believe B2B company commercials will quickly become much more common, and we see this as an opportunity for early adopters to gain a competitive advantage.

FYI: there are company commercials in jobsite123.com that are already getting hundreds of views per month…(we’ve only barely bugun to promote this feature)
Not nurturing your existing business relationships?
Aug 18, 2010 Surveys
In a recent survey, we learned that an alarming percentage of companies are not following up with their existing relationships. The question and answers were as follows:
Which of the following is the most effective way your company nurtures its existing business relationships?
48% Breakfast/Lunch Meetings
8% Golf Outings
7% Sporting Event Tickets
3% Fishing Trips
33% Other
The 33% that answered “Other” mostly commented that they “just provide excellent service” or ”don’t do anything”. Please keep in mind in this fiercly competitive economy: if you don’t follow-up with your relationships, your competitors will.

Are you getting a good Return from the dollars invested in your Company Website?
Aug 13, 2010 Surveys
Our national database of commercial construction and design companies includes architects, engineers, general contractors, specialty contractors, material suppliers, related vendors and corporate services. In a recent survey, we learned how much companies are spending on their website. The questions and responses were as follows:
How much did your company website originally cost to create?
41% Less than $1,000
38% $1,000 – $4,999
14% $5,000 – $14,999
8% More than $15,000
How much does your company spend per month to maintain its website?
62% Less than $100
22% $100 – $499
8% $500 – $1,500
5% More than $1,500
The money that companies are spending on their website is suprising, especially because of the small amount of traffic and business leads the majority of them get.

General Contractors are Embracing Technology to Create a Competitive Advantage
May 3, 2010 marketing tips
As a General Contractor, you want to streamline your operations expenses AND stand apart from your competition AND impress your clients with your forward thinking – right? Well…FYI, contractors across the U.S. are quickly recognizing the value of incorporating jobsite123.com into their construction business’s overall game plan.
After building-out a complete and current Qual-Port™ profile for your company, the next steps are as easy as… 1-2-3:
1. Send your entire bid list a request to maintain a complete Qual-Port™ profile for their company as well, so you have access to their most current construction qualifications (click here for some sample language used by other GC’s)
2. Make your clients and prospective clients aware of your company’s Qual-Port™ profile (and when you submit a GMP proposal with a list of your proposed subcontractors, include a direct link to each of their Qual-Port™ profiles also – so they can view your subcontractor’s qualifications too)
3. Create more construction bid opportunities by driving online traffic to your unique company qualifications with direct links from your website and each of your employee email signatures directly to your Qual-Port™ profile (both badges can be grabbed through this helpful link on our site).
Simple, right? OK, then get going…because your competitors read this too.

RE: Improving our Subcontractor/Vendor Qualification Process
Dear (recipient name):
We are improving our Subcontractor/Vendor Qualification process, and we need your cooperation.
We have registered at a new website called jobsite123.com, and we are maintaining our company’s qualifications profile inside this new directory. Just logon to jobsite123.com and look us up. Our profile allows us to showcase our company’s complete qualifications, client performance ratings and industry relationships in front of the growing number of industry buyers searching jobsite123.com for commercial construction resources. The signup and listing process works the same for all construction-related companies – and it’s free for everyone.
We are confident that this new technology that inter-connects our companies (and the entire industry) will eliminate the tedious task of exchanging current information from each other via reminder letters and prequalification forms. In short, jobsite123.com will allow us to keep up with all necessary information from your company by simply looking up your company profile in jobsite123.com when we have a new project. For more information about how this new system will help both of our companies, and the entire commercial construction industry – watch this video:
http://www.jobsite123.com/cs/aboutus/what-is-jobsite123.html
We are excited about the efficiencies this new technology brings to our businesses, and we found the whole process to be easy to get up and running. However, if you have any questions – just contact jobsite123.com’s customer support people.
